About My Personal Life

After one year of college (1981-1982) I went to France for two years (1982-1984) as a missionary for my church and was privileged to live in Paris, Biarritz, Pau, Angers and Bordeaux. I returned "home" from France to Bethel, Alaska where my family had moved in my absence. I worked to raise school funds and returned to Brigham Young University where I met and married Janice Spendlove of Salt Lake City, Utah on January 18, 1985. We now have four children: Joshua, (10 July 1987); Charlotte (27 January 1989); Daniel (21 March 1992) and Benjamin (30 August 1994). Janice and I both graduated from BYU with our undergraduate degrees in 1987. I started Law School at BYU that same year and upon graduation we moved to Houston, Texas in May of 1990 and have lived here since that time. I work at a national law firm, Vinson & Elkins, L.L.P., which has over 600 attorneys and offices in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Washington, D.C., New York, London, Moscow, Beijing and Singapore. Houston is the main office of the firm. I am not a litigator, contrary to expectations. I practice corporate law, primarily finance. I help arrange large financing to buy or build things (like major league ballparks, Argentine power plants, regional hospitals, radio stations, etc.). Our children are in to soccer, roller hockey, ballet, drums, harp, violin and piano. We have the proverbial minivan and can't believe we have children as old as they are.
