Almost everyone dreams of creating the next big thing when it comes to social media, but the truth is, starting a site that is valued in the millions and used by people worldwide such as Facebook, doesn’t happen every day, or even every year. Just because you and your friends think you have a great idea, it doesn’t necessarily mean everyone or anyone else will. Even if you’re on par with the genius of someone like Steve Jobs, there is no guarantee of success—the man himself failed big time with his doomed music social network, iTunes Ping. Launched in September of 2010, it was dead and buried just two years later.
Still convinced that you have the idea of the decade that will finally dethrone Facebook—or at least make a fairly decent-sized dent in its user base? Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and visit those social networks that believed they were truly invincible but ultimately failed.

Great blog right here! Additionally your site lots up fast!
Classy to write about how all your competition sucks. FAIL.
Hey Greg, thanks for the feedback. We are actually not competing against any of these sites. We are partnering with social media sites and email providers by aggregating social media content and emails into a consolidated platform.
Google+ is not dead. It is all I use. I left Facebook after their numerous privacy issues and the Spam of weather I would do something for someone in some game.
#2 is an odd choice — I definitely wouldn’t say that Google+ failed (yet). The SEO benefits of publishing/sharing your content and participating in the conversation on Google+ make it worth it for users to stick with it if they’re content creators.
Other than that, this is a great infographic!
This propose is steller! You undoubtedly identify how to keep a reader entertained. Between your wit and your videos, I was about moved to start my identifiable blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Great occupation. I truly enjoyed what you had to utter, and additional than that, how you existing it. Extremely cool!
You are out of touch with reality. Okrut is one of the world’s most successful sites, Google+ is anything but a failure.
And you don’t cite a single source. Looks like you make it all up!
I’m sorry buddy, but if you haven’t realized, it only succeeded in Brazil. And that’s only because they didn’t know any better.
If you look now, people are leaving Orkut in droves and moving over to Facebook. It is what it is.
As a specialist in social media marketing and “old people,” I can say Eons failed not just because they tried to create community based solely on age but because they betrayed the trust of their users. Eons got desperate, changed their age requirements to 13 (definitely not old). When making this change did not treat their core group of active members with respect.
Speaking of respect, I am very frustrated with any infographic that links “old people” to dinosaur visuals. That’s just age-ist. MyLife should know better.
Interesting thoughts. I think you’ve made one major error here, though. Google+ has not failed. Has it been slow to take off, absolutely. But in the past few months, I’m seeing people move over to it as a place to have discussions that’s less noisy than Twitter and less personal than Facebook–think the old LinkedIn groups before they got monopolized by self-promoters. Based on this, I’d say it is very premature to call it failed!
The ifographic is done well but it does not represent the actual reality. It sounds to me more like a facebook advertisement
If you read through the reasons why, it is quite clear that this infographic is very much in favor with Facebook – quite silly actually. In any case, I disagree with the inclusion of Google + as a failed Social Media site. Google + was never intended to be a “social media site” but more of an extension of Google.
Google+ is definitely not dead or failed. Clearly Google+ currently lags Facebook in # of users (~400M/1B) and ave minutes of use/month (mins/hours). As a user of both, I have to say that Google+ offers unique value and is growing every day. Google+ is not currently a huge threat to Facebook but at one time, neither did Facebook seem a threat to MySpace and we know how that book ends. To say that Google+ has failed or is dead may be calling it a bit too soon.
I would agree with the comments above saying that Google+ isn’t dead and definitely not going to. I mean, its pretty much obligatory to have a G+ account nowadays. I would say, people use Facebook because they want to and they use Google+ because they have to. But it doesn’t mean that G+ is dying, no way. Other than that, great points stated in infographic, very much to the point i think.
Google+ failed? Seriously? X-D
Whoa whoa whoa Google+ has some pretty cool features and is too soon to make gudgement (Google hangouts, bitch please! and Google discussion groups A-W-E-S-O-M-E)
I would replace G+ and Put Buzz and wave in there.
I was a big fan of “friendsreunited” but things changed and I lost contact with various groups who shared the same interests. Was it sold to another
outfit who thought they had a better idea ? Friendsreunited send updates about nostalgia but I never see old friends posting messages anymore and what happened to “groups”, what were they thinking ?
I was confused to see Google + listed on there, then I realized this was from mylife.com (the place that should be on there).
Referring senior users with Dino-face, claiming that Orkut only managed to succeed in Brazil ‘only because they didn’t know any better’ (I guess that reply is from MyLife’s end) and putting Google+ on the list- I can see the reasons why this MyLife should fall flat, if it hasn’t already.
I think the info graphics is well done – easy to understand. Though some of the points are debatable, in all it gives a gist of what was used for comparison. *like*
Hey buddy, seems the major fail here are these lame infographics. Where in the hell Google+ fail??? Maybe only for you. But now, everybody knows that Google+ surpased your dear Twitter thing. Btw, take a look at the comments you received, just in case you don’t believe in numbers.
