I am becoming accustomed to living in New Mexico now and the longer I'm here the more it feels like home! I left Texas after living there 13 straight years and because it feels like a second home I do go back and visit from time to time. At the present time I'm working for a mission school in western New Mexico ministering to a few of the Navajo people in this area. You are welcome to email me at My Email
After living in Texas 13 straight years and 17 years in all, I moved to nearby New Mexico to perform the type of work I have always been curious about - missionary work as a religious educator! Since January of 2008 Thoreau, NM has been my home. It is located between Grants and Gallup along I-40 and is near the Navajo Indian Reservation so most of those I associate with are of Navajo descent. It took almost 3 months before I was able to look beyond their ethnicity and see them as people just like myself. My work is predominantly school-related and is at St. Bonaventure Mission school. It is an elementary school with students from preschool - 8th grade. Our 2008 school year ended in May and other than a 2-week vacation getaway to Texas I stayed to explore the area and prepared for the 2008-2009 school year.I look forward to seeing my high school classmates every 5 years, and doing so gives me an opportunity to not only see them and my native Iowa, but also to visit with my parents who still live there in Iowa as well. My last visit to Iowa was our July 2005 reunion so I am looking forward to our next one in the summer of 2010. I am so fond of our get-togethers that I have made each and every one of our reunions; 5-year, 10-year, 15-year, 20-year, and most recently our 25-year reunion. Our class of over 150 graduates is very closeknit and united so much that each of our last 2 reunions resulted in us chatting in small groups instead of dancing to music and a hired D.J. I love you all and respect you all, and even though I haven't been the success I was hoping to be back in high school, it's always a pleasure to see my friends again to talk about old and current times!Peace and blessings to you all, and see you in 2010!Ted
I had the pleasure of living and working in a national park for 3 years recently. Big Bend is located in southwest Texas and is one of the nation's largest national parks. It is predominantly desert but features the entire Chisos Mountains range and the Rio Grande River separating Texas from Mexico. The park is approximately 40 miles x 30 miles in size and features over 100 miles of paved roads and over 150 miles of back country roads. While there I had the pleasure of not only working for the concession company but felt like an ambassador for America as tourists from all over the world came to hike, explore, and enjoy themselves in an isolated, large desert park. Only after realizing that there was no room for advancement for me there did I decide to leave. It was the easiest retail work I've ever done, and was the most peaceful and stress-free environment I have ever lived in! Big Bend National Park is a nice place to get away to and visit, but pretty isolated to live in.
